If you have uninsured motorist (UM) coverage, it means that your insurance company will cover you, the insureds members of your household and your passengers for any injuries, damages or death caused by another driver if you are involved in an accident where the other driver is at fault but he/she or the owner of the vehicle, if different from the driver, has no insurance. Uninsured motorist (UM) coverage also applies and will pay you for your injuries and damages if you are insured by a hit and run driver as well. Your UM coverage will cover your claim for medical expenses, lost earnings and pain and suffering caused by injuries up to your UM coverage limit on your policy.
